Teen Read Week '08

"Books with Bite"

October 13 - October 17
is PACKED with activities that celebrate reading...and that's what we're all about!
Here's a breakdown of what's going on.....

Monday, 10/13;

“Bustin’ Chops Reading”

WHS staff and Readers Club members will distribute promotional tickets to anyone seen reading text in any format. Tickets with recipients’ names may be turned in at the library to be eligible for a prize drawing. Staff helping with the event may collect tickets in an envelope provided by the library and turn in on Friday. Winners will be announced Monday, 10/20.

“A Taste of Reading

Staff and students - keep track of all the ways you read this week in a Bingo card format. You might be reading more than you think! Get a game card at the WHS Library. Game cards due.

Tuesday, 10/14;

“Talk Twilight”

Help discuss whether Bella sank her teeth into the right relationship. Join WHS Library staff, teachers, and students to talk about the popular Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. Whether you loved or hated these books, this is your chance to express your opinion. Plot and endings will be discussed, so it is suggested participants have read ALL four titles - Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn - but everyone is welcome. Meet in the WHS Library for heated conversation and to “wolf” down some fiery refreshments or chilled beverages of the sanguine family from 2:30 - 4 p.m.

Wednesday, 10/15;

“Stomp and Chomp Literacy Parade”

Readers Club members will dress in costume to represent something from a favorite book and will carry the club banner through the WHS hallways, culminating with a candy toss in the Commons during lunch.

“Bustin’ Chops Reading” and “A Taste of Reading continue.

Thursday, 10/16;

“Linner and a Movie” @ Readers Club Meeting

No, it’s not dinner - notice the “L.” Sink your teeth into some light snacks, while hanging around for a little edutainment. WHS Readers Club members voted among several theme-related movie titles. Check out the blog to see what’s playing . RC members helping with “Bustin’ Chops Reading”need to turn in all entry forms at the meeting.

Friday, 10/17;

“Chopper Fest” -- tentatively scheduled __ I Still need to get some details.
Science and health classes studying the integumentary system are invited to hear an oral health presentation by Ravi Sinha, DDS, at 1 p.m. in the auditorium. Dr. Sinha practices in Portland and has been featured on ____for his work in ____, he has performed cosmetic dentistry for contestants on ______, and works with law enforcement to teach about the effects drugs have on oral hygiene and one’s quality of life. His impressive collection of jaw-dropping photos may make you rethink your relationship with your toothbrush.

Video Game Buffet

Play your favorite choices of several popular video games (wii, PS2, Nintendo and X-Box) for FREE in the Commons, from 2:45 - 5 p.m. Prizes and light refreshments provided. Sign up in the library. Permission slips are required to participate or attend as an observer.

“Bustin’ Chops” and “A Taste of Reading” End

Turn in all drawing tickets and Bingo cards by lunch. Winners announced Monday, 10/20.

The video game buffet was great, I enjoyed playing, and it seemed that everyone else did too! As I heard, it was so popular people want to do it more often. Great Job, and thank you Mrs. Dillon
